Auto Insurance in Port St. Lucie, FL

Start here

Auto Insurance in Port St. Lucie, FL should never come down to whatever one company sends at renewal. One call to (772) 218-7676, about five minutes, puts your drivers and cars in front of several companies, with same day quotes side by side. Asking changes nothing on the policy you have now.

Some agencies represent one company, and one company means one quote. The licensed Florida agent behind this site is independent, representing many companies, so the comparison happens in one conversation instead of five. If you own a home here too, the home and the cars get quoted together, which is often where the real difference shows up.

Auto Insurance in Port St. Lucie, FL: Your Renewal Is Not a Verdict

A renewal price is one company's opinion of your household, today. Another company can look at the same drivers, the same cars and the same Port St. Lucie address and land somewhere else, because each company files its own rates and decides for itself which drivers it wants.

That is why paying the renewal without checking is the expensive habit. Nothing about your driving has to change for the price to change. You only have to ask more than one company.

What Moves an Auto Quote in St. Lucie County

  • Who drives, and their records. Tickets, at-fault accidents and lapses in coverage all count.
  • What you drive. Year, make and model change the cost of repairs and the physical damage premium.
  • Where the car is garaged. The garaging address is part of how a policy is rated, so give the exact one.
  • The limits you choose. Minimum limits cost less and cover far less, as the next section shows.
  • Whether the home is bundled. Many companies price the home and the car together.

02The details

What Florida Requires, and What It Leaves Out

Before you register a car with four or more wheels in Florida, you must show proof of at least $10,000 of personal injury protection and $10,000 of property damage liability, according to the FLHSMV insurance requirements. Bodily injury liability is not on that list.

Read that last line twice. Bodily injury liability is the coverage that pays for injuries you cause to other people. A policy built only to the registration list has none of it, so the other driver's medical bills can land on you personally.

Personal Injury Protection

Under s. 627.736, Fla. Stat., PIP pays 80 percent of reasonable expenses for medically necessary services if you receive initial care within 14 days after the accident. Reimbursement goes up to $10,000 when a provider determines you had an emergency medical condition, and is limited to $2,500 when a provider determines you did not. It is required, it is small, and it runs out fast.

Uninsured Motorist Coverage

Uninsured motorist coverage pays you when the driver who hurt you cannot. Under s. 627.727, a policy with bodily injury liability must include it unless a named insured rejects it in writing on a form approved by the Office of Insurance Regulation, and its limits are not less than the bodily injury limits you buy unless you choose lower. Rejecting it saves a little now and can cost a lot later.

How It Works: One Call, Several Companies Side by Side

Three steps, and only the first one needs anything from you.

  1. Step 1: Tell Us Once

Drivers, cars, the garaging address and your current declarations page if you have it. A few minutes on the form, or one call.

  2. Step 2: The Market Gets Shopped

A licensed agent runs the same drivers, cars and limits through the companies currently writing in St. Lucie County. A rated and AM Best options are available.

  3. Step 3: You Choose

You see the options side by side, with the same limits and deductibles lined up so the differences are real. If your current policy is still the right one, you will hear that too.

Up nextThe Cost of Waiting

05Pricing

The Cost of Waiting

Every renewal you pay without comparing is a year at a price nobody checked. The useful moment to shop is before the renewal date, not after it, because switching mid-term can mean a new effective date and new paperwork. Start two or three weeks ahead and there is time to line everything up.

A call changes nothing on your current policy. It costs nothing, it takes about five minutes, and the worst case is finding out you already have the right one.

Do I need bodily injury liability to register a car in Florida?

It is not on the registration list. The FLHSMV requires proof of $10,000 of PIP and $10,000 of property damage liability to register a car with four or more wheels. Bodily injury liability protects you if you injure someone else, which is why drivers with anything to protect usually carry it anyway.

Can you quote my home and cars together?

Yes. Say so on the form or on the call, and the home, condo or second home gets quoted alongside the cars.

I have a ticket or an accident on my record. Is it worth asking?

Yes. Companies weigh records differently, and the one you have now is only one opinion. The only way to know is to ask more than one.

What do you need from me to start?

Names and dates of birth for every driver, the year, make and model of every car, and the garaging address. Your current declarations page speeds it up. See the Florida auto minimums guide for what each coverage actually does.
